Year of Words

It's been a a little over year since I took the leap into entrepreneurship and it's had a few surprising turns. I had intended to focus mostly on business writing and event planning, but in March 2015 an opportunity arose to write for a local paper, and then some local magazines followed, and eventually I landed my own column in one publication. I added a personal blog to the line-up and suddenly writing was the only thing I was doing and I was happier in my work than I'd been in a long time. I love my community and family and getting to write about both of these things has brought me much joy. A bonus is that while some of the work has taken me out to events around the city (which has been fun in itself), most of it has allowed me to work from home making the work-at-home/stay-at-home parenting balance that much more possible.

At my twelve month anniversary I took some time to reflect on the work I've done and the work I hope to do and found that writing consistently came up as my priority - to become a better writer, to expand my client base, and to reconnect with my creative writing side. To do this I'm going to be attending more networking events (please let me know about your favourites!), and accepting some new clients who need a freelance writer for their business blog, newsletters, white papers, or web content.

I will still take on the occasional event client if the fit is right but most of my focus will be on writing for the foreseeable future. I'm looking forward to another year of words!
